Calais residents voted to approve total general fund expenditures of $1,286,991, of which $1,005,679 will be raised through taxes and $281,312 by nontax revenue. Voters also approved $1,917,730 for the Calais Elementary School budget.

A range of expenditures including $27,950 for Kellogg-Hubbard Library, $12,875 for the town of Woodbury for its firetruck replacement fund, and $1,250 for the Montpelier Senior Activity Center also got the thumbs up from townspeople.

Residents approved an allocation not to exceed 3 percent of the general fund budget to establish a Calais General Fund.

The town appropriated additional money to support a range of Central Vermont organizations.

Town roads got a boost with a $25,000 appropriation to the voter-approved highway equipment reserve fund. In addition, voters approved a sum not to exceed $60,000 to match a grant to finish paving the final 1.1 mile of County Road (total project cost is $235,000 with the grant paying $175,000) or, if the grant is not received from the Agency of Transportation, to skim coat the final 1.1 mile at an estimated cost of $33,250.

Residents also voted to appropriate a sum not to exceed $23,978 for structure projects within the town to match a grant of $215,811, for a total project cost of $239,789.

In balloting for town offices, voters elected Rose Pelchuck for a three-year term on the Select Board and Scott Bassage for a two-year term. Charlotte Hanna Bassage was elected for a three-year term as Calais Elementary School director; Emily Fair was voted in for a two-year term; and Derek Lamb was elected to a one-year term. John McCullough was voted in as town lister and Rebekah Cook as auditor.
