    Not journalism

There was no evidence of journalistic objectivity in two recent articles, “Town balks at library formula” and “Library mulling funding options,” about the Kellogg-Hubbard Library funding request from the town of Worcester.

Reporter David Taube’s use of quotes from one Select Board member and the town clerk is biased reporting and misrepresents the board member and clerk roles in the library funding issue. Someday the Kellogg-Hubbard Library services could be reflected in the town government’s budget as essential municipal services, but until that happens, the Kellogg-Hubbard Library funding request is still warned as a separate article. This year it is warned as Article 10 in the town report. This article will be discussed and voted on at town meeting. After the vote, the Select Board and town clerk must follow the will of the townspeople.

Reporting on the opinions of one Select Board member and the town clerk is not news. These opinions should be expressed on the editorial page. It seems like Taube had a story in mind and then sought opinions to support his angle. This is not journalism.
