    Town budget

    $242,975 — $15,335, or 6.7 percent, more than this year’s budget of $227,640.

    Budget includes a $3,000 increase in the cost of the town’s ambulance contract with Barre Town Emergency Medical Services and other inflationary increases. If approved, the budget will require $211,000 in local property tax support. That’s up $23,700, or 11.3 percent, over the $187,300 that was raised this year.



    Highway budget

    $509,800 – $85,615, or 12 percent, more than this year’s budget of $424,185.

    Budget includes roughly $100,000 to replace a steel culvert on George Street with a new concrete box culvert for which the town has secured an $85,500 grant. If approved, the budget will require $299,500 in local property tax support. That’s $16,725 less than the $316,225 that was raised this year, a reduction of almost 5.3 percent.



    School budget

    $2,728,875 — $8,875, or 0.33 percent, more than this year’s budget of $2,720,000.

    Budget includes a $15,000 increase to cover the cost of an existing behavioral support position, a net loss of $17,000 in grant funds that are used to finance school-based math and reading specialists, and a $59,695 reduction in high school tuition expenses.

    Contested races

    Candidates for town and school offices are nominated from and elected on the floor of their traditional town meeting.

    Town Clerk and Treasurer Kathie Felch, Selectman David Child and School Directors Darrin Magwire and John Barnes are among the local incumbents whose terms will expire on Town Meeting Day. Child, who has served on the town board for 15 years, said he plans to step down at town meeting.



    Meeting location

    Orange voters will gather for a floor meeting at the Orange Town Hall at 6:30 p.m. on March 5 to vote on all town and school affairs and to elect all local officials.
