• Veterans summit set for March 9

    LYNDON CENTER — Sen. Bernard Sanders and author Kristin Henderson headline the NEK Veterans Summit at Lyndon State College on March 9.

    The summit will be put on by the college’s veterans club, veterans student support committee and other veterans service organizations. The purpose is to bring veterans, their families and veterans organizations together.

    Sanders will deliver the summit address at 2 p.m. and will discuss the current status of veterans issues in Washington, D.C., as well as answer questions from the audience. Henderson is the keynote speaker. She has had her articles appear in the Washington Post Magazine, The New York Times and Military.com. She is married to a Navy chaplain who served with the Marines in Afghanistan and Iraq.

    The executive director of Student Veterans of America, Michael Dakduk, will give the opening address. Dakduk has contributed more than 4,000 volunteer service hours to SVA. He won the U.S. President’s Lifetime Volunteer Service Award, as well as several awards for academic achievement and leadership.
