• Vermont city manager fired
    February 07,2013

SOUTH BURLINGTON — The South Burlington City Council has fired its city manager two weeks after putting him on administrative leave. The council said in a statement Tuesday that Sanford “Sandy” Miller’s aggressive and confrontational style was among the reasons for his dismissal. The council made its decision Monday.

The Burlington Free Press reported that Miller’s attorney, Scott Cameron, calls the council’s explanation “disappointing.” He said the council made Miller the scapegoat for its own poor decisions.

The councilors said they doubt Miller’s commitment to carry out council decisions with which he disagrees.

Miller previously was city manager in Milton but left in 2009 after a falling out with the Select Board over contract negotiations.

He said Tuesday the council did not have just cause to dismiss him.
