MONTPELIER — Vermont’s new state auditor says he’s going to examine five areas of state government to make sure the state is getting the most for its money.

Auditor Doug Hoffer announced Wednesday he plans to examine the Department of Correction’s three-year $53 million contract for health care services; two contracts in the Transportation Agency; the Agency of Administration’s worker’s compensation and injury prevent program and the cost effectiveness of state-issued cell phones.

    Hoffer took office last month.

Hoffer says his office will also audit the state’s “last mile” telecom project and the health information technology investments, but those audits will require considerable background research and analysis before his office can determine specific objectives.
