• Barre Police Log: Weapon turns up at elementary school

    The following is a sampling of calls Barre police responded to in recent days.

    Jan. 28

    Someone brought a weapon to Barre City Elementary and Middle School.

    A mother and her three children were sliding in the middle of Hillside Avenue and a vehicle almost hit one of the children.

    Kids were sliding in the road on Eastern Avenue.

    Jan. 29

    Someone broke down a door on a Seminary Street residence and assaulted a woman.

    A man wearing a long coat with a hoodie was firing a gun on South Main Street.

    Prescription medication was stolen from a North Main Street residence.

    Jan. 30

    A car was on fire on Maple Avenue near Hope Cemetery.

    Five or six kids were jumping into traffic on North Main Street.

    Someone broke into a house on Palmisano Plaza and ďtook a bunch of stuff.Ē

    Jan. 31

    A German shepherd type of dog was running in and out of traffic on Berlin Street.

    On North Main Street, a man in a green truck broke a piece off a gas pump because a store refused to sell him something.

    A woman was walking a dog in the cemetery on Washington Street.

    On Hill Street, a tree fell on a house and live wires were hanging down.

    Feb. 1

    A two-car accident occurred on Hill Street around 3 p.m. No injuries were reported.

    An iPhone was stolen on North Main Street.

    On Elm Street, a man approached a window at a residence and tried to get a young child to go to the front door.

    A Summer Street resident returned home to find a door into the residence wide open.

    Feb. 2

    Tools were stolen from a manís vehicle on Prospect Street.

    An inspection sticker was stolen off a vehicle on Branch Street.

    Someone was assaulted by a Schwanís driver on Merchant Street after an issue with a credit card.

    On North Main Street, someone stole a manís wallet.

    Feb. 3

    A vehicle was broken into on Daniel Drive.

    On Country Way, a yellow Ford Focus was gone through, but nothing was missing.

    Someone stole a wallet out of a vehicle on Allen Street.

    A fat raccoon was acting strange near the Budget Inn on North Main Street.

    Someone slashed the tires on a blue Volkswagen on Brook Street.

    On Burnham Street, someone broke the windshield on a truck.

    People at the Beverage Baron refused to sell to a man because he ďlooked like a gangster.Ē

    A water main broke on Second Street.

    Feb. 4

    A suspicious vehicle was in Elmwood Cemetery.

    A 14-year-old girl left home without permission.

    The following is a sampling of citations Barre police issued in recent days.

    On Jan. 31, Spencer Caldwell, 23, was cited on a charge of enabling a minor. He is to appear in Washington County criminal court March 14 to answer the charge.

    On Feb. 4, Dennis Smith, 26, was cited on a charge of driving with a suspended license. He is to appear in Washington County criminal court March 14.
