BARRE — Prosecutors say a Websterville man is facing charges for allegedly having around $25,000 worth of cocaine and a loaded handgun while traveling with his wife and young son in New Jersey.

Eric Deltoro, 38, pleaded not guilty to charges of possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession with the intent to distribute, possession with the intent to distribute within 1,000 feet of a school, and possession of a firearm while committing a narcotics offense.

A statement from the Mercer County prosecutor’s office in New Jersey said police arrested Deltoro on Jan. 30 after the office’s Special Investigations Unit received information that he would be traveling to the Hamilton Township area to purchase a large quantity of powder cocaine.

Officers saw Deltoro buying gas, and Hamilton police pulled him over later that evening, according to the prosecutors’ statement. Deltoro was taken into custody, and a police dog searching the vehicle reacted positively to the scent of narcotics, the statement said. Police searched the vehicle and found a cloth bag containing nine ounces of powder cocaine and a fully loaded .40-caliber Glock semiautomatic handgun with a laser sight.

Deltoro also had $2,375 on him at the time of his arrest, prosecutors said.

Deltoro’s wife was not charged and was released. His bail was set at $250,000, and it couldn’t be confirmed Tuesday evening whether he was still being held.
