PLAINFIELD — Staff members at Goddard College are to vote today on whether to join a union.

Staff will be voting at the school’s campus in Plainfield by secret ballot from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.

If staff members vote in favor, they will become members of United Auto Workers Local 2322, which already represents the Goddard faculty. The college declined the union’s request for formal recognition in November, saying it wanted to be sure that unionization was fully supported by all the staff.

That’s in contrast to 1998, when Goddard allowed its faculty to join a union without forcing a vote.

Today’s voting at Goddard is being overseen by the National Labor Relations Board.
