MLK events are scheduled
Martin Luther King Jr. Day is Monday, and numerous events in connection with the civil rights leader will occur in coming days across the state.
From 9 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Unitarian Church of Montpelier, a breakfast will include a 10 a.m. program by Vermont Interfaith Action. The breakfast benefits the group. On Monday, Vermont Technical College in Randolph Center will have free events beginning at 9 a.m., where participants will build a wall in Hartness Library to symbolize King’s contributions to social justice issues. Community service projects will happen during the day, and President Barack Obama’s second inaugural speech will be telecast at noon at the Campus Center.
The ECHO Lake Aquarium and Science Center in Burlington will have a special $2 admission for the museum, which has a national traveling exhibit right now, “RACE: Are We So Different?” that ends Jan. 27. A community art collaboration will occur at 12:30 p.m.; an elementary school choir concert will begin at 2 p.m.; and a cultural diversity puppet show will start at 3:30 p.m.
St. Michael’s College in Colchester will host a weeklong event about the civil rights advocate.
