• Woman pleads not guilty to crash

BARRE ó A Middlesex woman is facing multiple charges alleging she seriously injured her young child by crashing into a tree in November while intoxicated.

Amy O. Hannon, 36, pleaded not guilty Thursday in Washington County criminal court in Barre to two felony counts of driving under the influence resulting in an injury, and a misdemeanor charge of cruelty to a child under 10 years old. If convicted, she faces a maximum of 32 years in prison and a $10,500 fine.

According to the Vermont State Police affidavit, troopers responded to a crash on Molly Supple Hill Road in Middlesex around 6:30 p.m. Nov. 27. State police say Hannon drove her Toyota Sienna off the northbound side and crashed head-on into a tree.

State police said that while investigating, they learned Hannonís son, whose name and age have not been released, suffered a broken collarbone and a bleeding kidney. In court Thursday, Judge Thomas Zonay said that while the affidavit does not directly specify that the crash caused the injuries to the child, for the purposes of probable cause, he sees the crash as the reason.

In the affidavit, state police said that after the crash they could smell alcohol on Hannonís breath and she was dazed and unsteady on her feet. She denied drinking that evening. A sample of Hannonís blood was tested hours after the crash and showed a blood alcohol content of 0.321 percent ó well over the legal limit for driving of 0.08 percent.

In its report, the Vermont Forensic Laboratory said based on how quickly the alcohol was leaving Hannonís system, she would have had a blood alcohol content of 0.35 at the time of the accident.
