Sabrina Fadial of Montpelier pounds hot steel on an anvil at her blacksmith shop in Barre Town.

An old blacksmith shop in Barre Town is once again ringing with the sounds of hammer on anvil. Sabrina Fadial, assistant director for visual art programming at the Vermont College of Fine Arts in Montpelier, has moved into a blacksmith shop that once served the granite industry and is forging unique works of art in the historic space. Fadial, a graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design, uses found objects as raw material for her nature-inspired creations. Above, Fadial hammers a hot steel rod on an anvil at her shop. Right, many of Fadial’s works are based on shapes she sees in nature. Below, Fadial mentors U-32 student Bailey Southgate, 15, of East Montpelier, as she works to create a bracelet.
