Lawrence D. Abbiati Rites
BARRE TOWN — A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated on Monday, Jan. 7, 2013, at 11 a.m. in St. Monica Catholic Church in Barre, for Lawrence D. Abbiati, who passed away on Jan. 4, 2013, at his home on Skylark Terrace.
The Rev. Leopold J. Bilodeau, pastor of the church, was the celebrant.
Crucifer Lawrence Reilly was altar server and led the Prayer of the Faithful.
Organist and soloist Rosemary Badeau accompanied vocalists Romeo Bilodeau, Ronald Routhier, Nicholas Conti, Joseph Kelly, Sue Stone and Robert Breitinger in the hymns, “Be Not Afraid,” “The Lord Is My Shepherd,” “Your Words, Lord, Are Spirit and Life,” “Hail Mary, Gentle Woman,” “Ave Maria,” “On Eagles’ Wings,” “Song of Farewell” and “Let There Be Peace On Earth.”
Words of remembrance, written by his daughter Sharon Bisson, were read by Father Bilodeau.
The Old Testament reading was read by Raymond Bisson II, and Sister Elizabeth Driscoll, RSM, read Scriptures from the New Testament.
Offertory gifts and roses were presented at the altar by all his grandchildren.
Assisting as Eucharistic ministers were Paula Hennessey, Paul Hennessey and Gladys Prindiville.
Pallbearers were Edward Ferrari Sr., Edward Ferrari Jr., Jon Turmel, Lu Dindo, Bruce Bartlett and Douglas Bullard.
Father Bilodeau led a prayer service Sunday afternoon at the Pruneau-Polli Funeral Home in Barre.
The fourth degree Knights of Columbus, Council 399, who provided honor guard during calling hours were: William Robie, John Santorello, Denis Jacques, Edward Ferrari Jr., Raymond Morin, Sandy Conti, Richard Luce, Frank Partsch, Edward Gilbert, Ronald Putney and Raymond Chaloux. They also provided honor guard at the funeral and included: Christopher Dupre, Edward Gilbert, Denis Jacques, Raymond Morin, Sandy Conti, Richard Luce, Frank Partsch and Raymond Chaloux.
Burial followed the Mass at Hope Cemetery in Barre, where Father Bilodeau offered committal prayers. Full military honors were accorded the deceased by the funeral detail from the Vermont Army National Guard. The American flag was presented to Janice Abbiati, wife of the deceased. Taps was sounded.
Following the burial, family and friends gathered at the Hilltop Restaurant on Quarry Hill Road for a time of fellowship and luncheon.
