Vermont utility seeks renewable energy moratorium
JOHNSON — One of Vermont’s largest utilities is calling on the state to impose a moratorium on renewable energy mandates.
The board of Vermont Electric Cooperative approved a resolution Thursday seeking a two-year moratorium and formation of a statewide panel that includes customers to develop a renewable energy transition plan.
About a dozen opponents of wind energy attended the meeting at the co-op’s headquarters in Johnson, where the resolution was passed.
Co-op CEO Dave Hallquist said the resolution reflects the sentiment of its members who are concerned about finding a balance between rising electric rates and the adoption of greener energy.
