    Volunteers praised

    for tree stewardship

MONTPELIER — Several Vermont individuals and groups are being honored for their work to promote and take care of trees in their communities.

The Vermont Urban and Community Forest Council this week gave out its annual Vermont tree stewards awards at the Statehouse in Montpelier.

They went to Susan Smith of Charlotte; the city of Montpelier; the Dummerston conservation commissioner, Will Sightler; and Polly Thompson of Rockingham.

Lee Krohn, chairman of the Urban & Community Forestry Council, said the awards are a way to say thank you for the work volunteers are doing to promote trees in their communities.
