BURLINGTON — A 33-year-old registered sex offender is going to prison for five years and three months after pleading guilty to a charge he failed to register in Vermont.

The U.S. Attorney’s office says Cory Lott was sentenced Monday in federal court in Burlington.

Prosecutors describe Lott as being from South Carolina and New York. They say the underlying sex offense that required Lott to register as a sex offender involved an offense against a minor in New York.

Court records say Lott came to Vermont after absconding from probation in South Carolina.

Lott has been in custody since his arrest by Burlington police in May.
