RUTLAND — Isabel E. Flory, 88, of Rutland passed away Wednesday evening at Rutland Regional Medical Center.
She was born in West Rutland, May 30, 1924, daughter of Ernest and Isabelle (McNamara) Lanthier. She was a graduate of West Rutland High School, class of 1942. Isabel was married June 7, 1947, at St. Bridget Church in West Rutland to Alfred R. Flory.
She was employed with the Food Service Program at Lincoln School and Mount Saint Joseph Academy.
The center of Mom’s life was the time spent with her husband, children and grandchildren on holidays, birthdays, and annual trips to York Beach, Maine. Mom was the best cook and baker, being especially noted for her famous gennettes that the entire family enjoyed. Mom’s presence was the light of our lives and she will be dearly missed by all.
Surviving are her husband Alfred Flory of Rutland, three daughters, Donna Joseph and her husband Sam of Springfield, Mass., Joanne Simonds and her husband Jimmy of Rutland, Mary Anne Seager and her husband Daniel of Rutland, one son Al Flory and his wife Maryse of Barre; brother-in-law, William Flory of Rutland; eight grandchildren Todd Joseph and wife Denice, Chad Joseph and wife Julee, Darby Simonds, Andrew Simonds and wife Amy, Kristen Seager, Katelyn Seager, Justin Flory and Josh Flory; five great-grandchildren, Maura, Tanner and Rylee Joseph, Breann Avondo, and William Simonds, nieces, nephews and cousins. Isabel was raised by her grandparents, Edward and Anna McNamara after the death of her mother at childbirth and predeceased by their children who Isabel considered her brothers and sisters, Edward McNamara, William McNamara, Walter McNamara, Irene Ruzicka, Anna Thompson, Mary Chehy, Ruth Bryon and Robert McNamara.
Visiting hours will be held Sunday, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Clifford Funeral Home in Rutland, Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at St. Peter’s Church in Rutland. Officiating will be the Rev. Thomas Houle, pastor. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetary. Contributions may be made to Rutland Area Visiting Nurse-Hospice or to St. Peter’s Church.
