Where to start with the thank yous?

On Election Day, Barre City found itself having to move the polling place due to an emergency situation that caused the access road to the auditorium to be closed to traffic. After receiving word from the Public Safety Department at 2:30 p.m. that we needed to relocate, we secured the Old Labor Hall with just one phone call. With another, the secretary of state’s office had staff members and tech support personnel on the way to take charge of moving the voting machines and ballots. Election workers, Board of Civil Authority members, city staff from a wide variety of departments and voters volunteered to help in any way they could. Supplies were packed up and shipped to the labor hall, and we were up and voting again in little more than 30 minutes.

The word spread on local radio stations, newspapers and websites. People posted notices on Facebook, Twitter and Front Porch Forum. Signs were quickly printed and posted all over the city. And the people came out to vote, more than 3,100 of them.

Thank you to everyone who helped with the move and got the word out. This is just one small example of what makes Barre such a great community.
