NEWPORT ó A Vermont woman accused of intentionally crashing her car into a tree to kill her husband has been sentenced to seven to 15 years in prison as part of a plea deal.
Christine Billis, 45, of Brownington, pleaded guilty to manslaughter in July. She was sentenced Friday.
Billis was originally charged with first-degree murder for the Sept. 22, 2009, crash in Charleston that killed her husband, 57-year-old Charles Billis.
Christine Billis was wearing a seat belt and suffered minor injuries in the crash. At the time, police thought she may have had a medical problem that contributed to the crash.
A man she met online later gave police a recording of her confessing to crashing her car intentionally to kill her husband, whom she described as abusive.MORE IN Vermont NewsIf this hasnít been the worst year ever for truth in politics, I canít think of what was.
