NEWPORT — A Vermont woman accused of intentionally crashing her car into a tree to kill her husband has been sentenced to seven to 15 years in prison as part of a plea deal.
Christine Billis, 45, of Brownington, pleaded guilty to manslaughter in July. She was sentenced Friday.
Billis was originally charged with first-degree murder for the Sept. 22, 2009, crash in Charleston that killed her husband, 57-year-old Charles Billis.
Christine Billis was wearing a seat belt and suffered minor injuries in the crash. At the time, police thought she may have had a medical problem that contributed to the crash.
A man she met online later gave police a recording of her confessing to crashing her car intentionally to kill her husband, whom she described as abusive.MORE IN Vermont NewsMONTPELIER — Several people were arrested for unlawful trespass Monday at the TD Bank in... Full Story
