MONTPELIER — The city is looking for a new zoning and building administrator because Clancy DeSmet, the current administrator, is taking a job as Act 250 coordinator for Barre.

Director of Planning and Community Development Gwendolyn Hallsmith said the administrator job will be similar to that done by DeSmet, with one tweak: Hallsmith wants to hire someone who has some background in building inspection.

The building inspector was added to Hallsmith’s department in January, and she said that when the inspector, Glenn Moore, goes on vacation all his activities come to a stop. She wants to address that problem by bringing in someone who has experience with inspecting buildings so that function of the government does not come to a grinding halt.

Hallsmith said she hopes to get resumes in by today and will start interviewing soon.
