    Pearce understands role of treasurer

I urge fellow Vermonters to elect our current state treasurer, Elizabeth Pearce, to continue to serve as Vermont state treasurer. Beth is well-qualified, nonpolitical, and is quietly doing an excellent job investing and managing our funds. She has had a steady and successful career in public finance and brings broad experience with public investment and cash management to the state treasurer’s office.

Her opponent’s splashy TV ads indicate that Wendy Wilton may not understand the role of the state treasurer, especially relative to the state operating budget. Wilton has more experience as a politician than as an overseer of state funds; do we really want to return to the days of a politician in the Vermont state treasurer’s office? No.

(Whether the offices of state auditor and state treasurer should be elected positions is another debate, for another time.)

Elizabeth Pearce, an experienced, forward-thinking money manager and hardworking state official, deserves your support to continue her stewardship of Vermont’s treasury.
