    Museum forum was fantastic

It was really wonderful to have such a crowd at the public forum last week. For all of you who came and worked in our small group discussions we are deeply grateful for your contributions. We are going to compile and examine your suggestions very closely as we work toward developing the five-year community plan for the Vermont Granite Museum and Stone Arts School. We are looking forward to working with many new enthusiastic people to move this project forward.

Since August the VGM board has been meeting weekly in preparation for the forum, and I would like to thank my fellow board members for their commitment and dedication. I would like to offer special thanks to the following people for joining those meetings: Mayor Thomas Lauzon, City Manager Steven Mackenzie, City Council members Lucas Herring and Michael Smith, Planning Commission Chairman David Sichle, Steven Pappas and Shawn Stabell of The Times Argus, sculptors Ryan Mays and Heather Ritchie, Barre Partnership members Bob Nelson and Denise McBride, consultant on land management and community organizer Ellen Sivret, Mark Hudson of the Vermont History Center, our facilitator from the UVM Extension Bill McMaster, adviser to the VGM board and historic preservation consultant for the Preservation Trust of Vermont Eric Gilbertson, and the SHS National Honor Society students led by Krishna Patel.

It will take the involvement of many people to complete this museum. Remember it is not on the moon, it is right here in Barre, and within our reach.
