Man accused of ramming officers vehicle
NEWPORT CENTER — A Derby man is facing charges of repeatedly ramming his car into the vehicle of an off-duty police officer and leading a high-speed chase early Wednesday while drunk.
Brent McClure, 23, was charged with aggravated assault, attempting to elude, driving under the influence, driving with a suspended license and gross negligent operation.
Vermont State Police say McClure was driving west on Route 105 when he rammed into the vehicle of Newport City Officer Richard Wells, 34, of Troy. McClure then sped off when police officers and U.S. Border Patrol agents tried to pull him over, according to police.
The chase went through Newport Center, Newport City and Derby before McClure got out of his vehicle and fled into the woods, police said.
He was found by U.S. Border Patrol and taken into custody by state police. McClure is to appear in Orleans County criminal court Oct. 30 to answer the charges.MORE IN This Just InCOLCHESTER — Two year after Lake Champlain flooding destroyed part of it, the Colchester Causeway...
