BARRE TOWN — Edward William “Gibber” Gibbs, 56, of Farwell Street, surrounded by the love of his family and friends, left this world on Saturday, October 20, 2012, at his home, to be with his dad, Bernarr Sr., in heaven.
Born April 17, 1956, he was the son of Bernarr M. Gibbs Sr. and Floy A. (Newton) Virge. He graduated from Spaulding High School in 1974.
“Gibber” worked at the former Dion Motors, RJ Citgo, and most recently at Sanborn Machines until his recent retirement due to ill health. In his free time, he could be found working on friends or family members’ vehicles or tinkering on something.
He enjoyed “tinkering” and “figuring out” mechanical problems and coming up with a plan to solve the issue, even if only temporarily, as well as watching NASCAR races, hunting and spending time with and helping out family and friends.
“Gibber” will be sadly missed by his mother, Floy of Barre Town; his sisters, Sharon Jacobs of Barre, Crystal Breer of Orange, Cecile Martin and husband Tiny, who cared for him until his death, and Carol Jeanne Stange of Maine. He will also be missed by his brothers, Bernarr Jr. and wife Donna of Plainfield, Jeff Virge and wife Kathy of Barre, and Paris M. “Skip” and wife Phyllis of Hamden, Conn. His nieces and nephews, Tracy and BJ Sweet, Renita and Chris Marshall, Jeremy and Cheryl Jacobs, Desta and David Boswell, Seth Breer, Danelle Jenkins, Jeffrey Virge II and Kevin Virge, will miss the words of wisdom that were frequently offered by “Uncle Gibber.” He is also survived by several great-nieces and -nephews who are also saddened by the loss. He was predeceased by his dad and a nephew, Aaron Breer.
A celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, October 23, 2012, at 7:00 p.m. at the Hooker and Whitcomb Funeral Home, 7 Academy St., Barre. In the spring, around his birthday, a bonfire party will be held per his wishes.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the Central Vermont Home Health and Hospice, 600 Granger Road, Barre, VT 05641.
Gibber’s family would like to thank Fletcher Allen Health Care, Central Vt. Medical Center, Dr. Julie Adams, Dr. Michael Hayes and Dr. Kristopher Jensen and Central Vt. Home Health and Hospice for the superior care they gave him throughout his illnesses.
A special thanks goes to his brother-in-law, Vic “Tiny” Martin and his wife Cecile, and sister Crystal Breer for the special personal, daily care given to Gibber in the last few months.
