Gekas would be active lieutenant governor
Next month Vermonters will by wide margins vote to send Peter Shumlin, Peter Welch and Bernie Sanders back to office. This is because they represent the progressive spirit that makes Vermont a leader in developing innovative and equitable approaches to environmental, health care, employment and educational challenges. Cassandra Gekas should be included in this group and elected to serve as Vermont’s lieutenant governor. She will assuredly advance the mission of the office by using it as a full-time platform to develop meaningful policy, instead of taking on a part-time, largely ceremonial role that the office has deferred to in the recent past.
Gekas has proven herself to be a serious and successful advocate for single-payer health care, renewable energy and social safety net programs that have and will serve as the best foundation for a vibrant economy. This is exactly what we need — someone who will use all the powers of the lieutenant governor’s office to address the long-term needs of the state.
When you vote for the incumbent Democrats on the ballot because you know their progressive stances on energy, health care, women’s rights, education and access to opportunity for all are in line with your values and beliefs, it only makes sense to put a check next to the name Cassandra Gekas as well.
