HARTFORD — A Norwich man was killed on Saturday morning after being hit by two vehicles on Interstate 91, according to the Vermont State Police.

Mikhail Lomakin, 24, of Norwich, was lying on the road before being hit around 2:25 a.m., according to the drivers involved, police said.

In a press release, Trooper Andrew Collier of the Vermont State Police barracks in Royalton said both Shane Harlow, 47, of Quechee, and Justin Ciccarelli, 37, of Windsor, reported seeing a large object in the southbound lane of Interstate 91 around mile marker 73 in Hartford.

Both drivers said they initially believed it was a dead animal. When they got closer, they realized it was a person lying in the road but neither were able to stop before colliding with Lomakin, police said.

According to Collier, Lomakin was pronounced dead at the scene. His body was taken to the office of the state medical examiner in Burlington for an autopsy.

Police are asking that anyone who was traveling on Interstate 91 between Exit 14 and Exit 11 early on Saturday between about 1 a.m. and 2:30 a.m., and who might have seen a pedestrian on the roadway or anything suspicious, to call the Vermont State Police in Royalton at 234-9933.

Police would also like to hear from anyone who had contact with Lomakin on Friday.
