TUNBRIDGE — Stanley E. Clogston Sr., 70, died unexpectedly Wednesday, Oct. 3, 2012, at Gifford Medical Center in Randolph.
He was born June 25, 1942, in Sharon, the son of Vernon A. and Muriel (Sheldon) Clogston. He attended school in Sharon and later graduated from St. Johnsbury Trade School in St. Johnsbury in 1960. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War and later graduated from Johnson State College in Johnson with a Bachelor of Science degree in business.
Stan had many different jobs. He was a Vermont state trooper for one year and a security supervisor at Vermont Technical College in Randolph Center for 13 years, where he developed a procedure and policy program that was later adopted by all of the Vermont State Colleges. He worked for the Northfield Savings Bank and Button Real Estate before starting his own business, Beacon Hill Reality of Chelsea.
On June 8, 2002, he married Carolyn Spooner, of Fairlee.
He was a member of the Rising Sun Lodge 7 F & AM of South Royalton and was a former member of the George Washington Lodge 51 F & AM of Chelsea. He enjoyed sailing, camping, boating, fishing, skiing and cooking. He was a licensed pilot, enjoyed flying and his Samoyed dogs. He was very proud of his two granddaughters, Sydnie and Alexis Allen.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Clogston, of Tunbridge; a daughter, Christine Allen, and her husband, Rory, of Chelsea; a stepdaughter, Marrisa Caldwell, of Middlesex; a stepson, Patrick Greer, of Tunbridge; two granddaughters, Sydnie and Alexis Allen; two nephews, Darwin and Chester Clogston; several cousins; and a good friend, Dave Hawkins. He was predeceased by his parents; a brother, Vernon Clogston Jr.; and a son, “J.R.” (Stanley E. Clogston Jr.).
There will be no public calling hours or funeral service. A time to greet the family, tell stories and share his favorite food will be held Sunday, Oct. 7, 2012, at 1 to 3 p.m. at the Rising Sun Lodge 7 F & AM, located at 234 Chelsea St., South Royalton. The burial will be held at a later time at the convenience of family in the Evergreen Cemetery in South Strafford.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Rising Sun 7 F & AM Scholarship Fund, c/o Don Lovejoy, 39 Safford St., South Royalton, VT 05068. Arrangements are under the direction of the Boardway & Cilley Funeral Home in Chelsea.
