RUTLAND — The family of a 17-year-old Vermont high school student killed in a vehicle crash has established a foundation to honor her and her love of golf.

The foundation has been started in honor of Carly Ferro. It’s called The Purple Angel Foundation for her favorite color.

Her family issued a statement Tuesday thanking the community for its support and vowing to make positive change the legacy of her life. Part of the money from the fund will go toward a college scholarship for a teenage girl.

Ferro was killed last week as she was coming out of the Rutland Discount Food and Liquidation Center, where she worked.

Police said the crash was caused by an incapacitated driver believed to have been “huffing” from aerosol cans. The car plowed into others parked at the business.
