Stanley E. Shonio Rites
BARRE CITY — The committal service for Stanley Edwin Shonio of the North Barre Manor was held Friday, September 28, 2012, at 11 a.m. in the Plain-Mont Cemetery in East Montpelier. He died Sept. 16, 2012, at his home.
The Rev. David Vanderlinde-Abernathy, pastor of the Barre Congregational Church, led the service.
Words of remembrance were offered by his stepdaughter, Carol Griffith, and family friend, Bruce Judd.
His great-grandson, Matthew Madigan, read an interview of his grandfather’s military experience in the Pacific Theatre of Operations during World War II, for which he earned a writing award while in elementary school.
Military honors were rendered by the Funeral Honors Team of the Vermont Army National Guard, Camp Johnson, Colchester. Taps were sounded and the American flag was folded and presented to Stanley’s stepdaughter, Carol Griffith, by Staff Sgt. Christopher Spear.
Fellowship and luncheon followed at the Steakhouse Restaurant in Berlin.
The Hooker and Whitcomb Funeral Home, 7 Academy St., Barre, was in charge of the arrangements.
