Oreste V. Valsangiacomo Sr. Rites
BARRE CITY — A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Friday, September 28, 2012, at 11 a.m. in St. Monica Catholic Church in Barre for Oreste V. Valsangiacomo Sr. of Sheridan Street. He passed away on August 31, 2012, at the Rowan Court Health & Rehabilitation Center in Barre.
The Rev. Leopold J. Bilodeau, pastor of the church, was the celebrant assisted by Rev. Mr. Daniel L. Pudvah, deacon. Crucifer was Lawrence Reilly.
Greeters were Suzie (Galfetti) Benoit, grandniece, and Starr Ann Parnigoni LeCompte, cousin.
Organist Rosemary Badeau accompanied vocalists Ronald Routhier and Romeo Bilodeau in the hymns, “Here I Am Lord,” “Shepherd Me, O God,” “Your Words, Lord, Are Spirit and Life,” “Prayer of St. Francis,” “Ave Maria,” “Song of Farewell” and “Battle Hymn of the Republic.”
Words of remembrance were shared by Oreste Valsangiacomo Jr., son, and Mayor Thom Lauzon.
The Old Testament reading was read by Jon Valsangiacomo, grandson, and Anne Marie Valsangiacomo, granddaughter, read scriptures from the New Testament.
Deacon Pudvah read the Gospel and led the Prayer of the Faithful.
Offertory gifts and roses were presented at the altar by Ellen Ann Galfetti, niece; Suzie (Galfetti) Benoit, grandniece; Kathaline Leitgeb, niece; and Lisa Galfetti) Bianchi, grandniece.
Pallbearers were Jon Valsangiacomo, grandson; Albert Galfetti and Charles Galfetti, both grandnephews; and Richard Parnigoni, cousin.
Father Bilodeau led the prayer service Friday morning at the Pruneau-Polli Funeral Home in Barre.
Burial followed the Mass in Hope Cemetery where Father Bilodeau offered the committal prayers. Full military honors were accorded the deceased by the Funeral Detail of the Vermont Air National Guard. The American flag was presented to Oreste Valsangiacomo Jr., son of the deceased. Taps were sounded.
Following the burial, family and friends gathered at the Hilltop Restaurant on Quarry Hill Road for a time of fellowship and luncheon.
