BURLINGTON — Two high-ranking Irish diplomatic officials are visiting Vermont this week.

Michael Collins, the Irish ambassador to the United States, and Michael Longergan, the Irish Consul General, will be in Burlington for two days of talks and events on Thursday and Friday.

The visit is being hosted by the Vermont Council on World Affairs and Champlain College. The college has been developing closer ties with Ireland in recent years, sending about 300 students to study-abroad programs in Dublin since 2008.

One highlight will be a presentation by Collins on recent developments in the Irish economy. That’s set for Thursday at 5 p.m. at the college’s Alumni Auditorium.
