“It is important to remember that Duxbury was severely impacted by two storms in 2011 — one which came through earlier in the spring caused more damage to the town (almost $1 million), then Tropical Storm Irene,” says Dick Charland, Select Board member. There was about $1.7 million in damages incurred from both storms, and reimbursement to date is $1.1 million. All of Duxbury’s projects were completed by November of last year, though some of the repairs from the first storm had been undone by Irene.

Almost 35 properties were affected by Irene, and all of the mobile homes in the town’s Patterson Park were destroyed.

Charland says Duxbury was very fortunate it was able to complete repairs required after both storms and he hopes that those families still displaced will return once repairs are completed in Patterson Park. He says the town has reorganized its Emergency Management Committee in response to the calamities, and the town is grateful for the help from the Agency of Natural Resources and the Agency of Transportation with the FEMA process.

Charland says residents are encouraged to participate in a non-denominational service, which will take place on the Winooski Bridge this Sunday.
