Some things to think about

In support of Jeff Wennberg’s “Who’s outsmarting whom?” article in Sunday’s Times Argus (June 29), several thoughts about the contents of the article:

President Obama must be Gov. Shumlin’s hero as he’s following exactly in his footsteps — my plan first, your payment later. Who needs times, dates, regulations when you can be first? Does anyone remember the axiom “slow and steady wins the race”? Ah, the wisdom of that old, archaic stuff. I sense this “rush-to-completion” attitude has ulterior motive as well. It’s called politics, but at its root, it has other names — pride or hubris.

Why am I also sensing this shift in executive privilege that surrounds these two men? I thought the establishment/making of law was the responsibility of the congressional branch of government that allows for the ebb and flow of ideas, including the estimated price tags that they will hand their respective citizens?

As somewhat rational human beings, are our lives to be further defined by big government? How long will we be persuaded by fine-sounding arguments that tickle our ears, that continue to put the cart before the horse?

How long will it be that we allow the spending of monies we may not have? What is the national debt up to now? Hint: It begins with the letter “T.” Are we, too, due for a bailout in the near future?

Finally, have we seemed to have forgotten ourselves the meaning of history? Have we ever seen the permanency of our government as our savior? Please consider these things.
