BERLIN — An East Topsham man is facing a charge of drunken driving after being stopped by Berlin police over the weekend.
Ryan Welch, 26, is to be arraigned on the charge next month at the criminal courthouse in Barre.
Police said Welch was driving the 2001 Volkswagen Golf they pulled over on Route 12 shortly before 10 p.m. Saturday. The vehicle, they said, fit the description of a car Montpelier police were trying to locate.
According to police, the car’s occupants were involved in an assault and had left the scene of an accident on Northfield Street.
Berlin police did not indicate whether anyone other than Welch was in the vehicle when they pulled it over but said their investigation confirmed the car was the one police in Montpelier were looking for.MORE IN This Just InVermont State Police say a Massachusetts man has died in an all-terrain vehicle crash in the town...
