    Make a difference

Gov. Shumlin is hosting all of the other New England governors (and Eastern Canadian premiers) in Burlington at the end of July. This meeting is promoted as an opportunity for cooperation around energy resources and other needs.

But what does energy cooperation mean today? More power lines to transmit electricity from Hydro-Quebec’s huge dams? Pipelines to pump highly corrosive tar sands oil through the Northeast Kingdom? More nuclear power from Seabrook and other aging reactors? Economically, will more regional cooperation bring us more equity, or more of the same destructive and unjust economic policies?

To raise these questions and protest current policies, people from all over the region are coming to Burlington on July 29-30 to tell the governors we want more justice, local control over energy resources, more openness and real democracy.

Everyone is welcome to join us (details at btvconvergence.net).
