A home at 58 Grafton St. in Townshend was destroyed in an explosion overnight.

The home belonged to Carlton Smith, a retired Leland & Gray High School teacher.

Smith was not home at the time of the explosion and no injuries were reported and there was no fire at the residence.

Townshend Volunteer Firefighters believe the propane tank may have been the root cause of the blast.

Vermont State Police fire investigators are working to determine the cause.
