SOUTH BURLINGTON — JetBlue Airways is dropping the only nonstop flight between Vermont and Florida in November.

The discount carrier has operated one daily nonstop between Burlington International Airport and Orlando, Fla., for several years, and airport officials are left scratching their heads by JetBlue’s announcement that the service will end on Nov. 27.

Robert McEwing, interim airport manager, told WPTZ-TV that he’s “puzzled” because there are few empty seats on the flights. But JetBlue spokeswoman Alison Croyle said the route was dropped because “sales were not high enough to generate sustainable profits.”

The airline will continue its daily flights from Burlington to New York.

United, USAirways and Delta also serve Vermont’s largest airport.
