BROOKLINE, Mass. — A black bear that climbed a large tree in Brookline is back on the ground.
The bear was spotted in the tree on Hammond Street in the Chestnut Hill neighborhood Tuesday morning, drawing police and a large group of curious onlookers.
An environmental police officer in a cherry picker approached the animal, attempting to tranquilize it. A short time later, television video showed the animal tumbling from the tree.
No other information was immediately available.
While it’s rare for a black bear to wander so close to Boston, this isn’t the first time in recent weeks that one has turned up in an unusual location in Massachusetts.
Earlier this month, state wildlife officials captured a bear that had fascinated residents and tourists on Cape Cod for more than two weeks.
