Seniors deserve better

The May 29 Times Argus editorial praising former U.S. Sen. Alan Simpson was badly misinformed. Just because he points out the obvious, that the Congress must cut federal spending and raise taxes to rein in the deficit doesn’t make him a “True Leader” as your headline suggests.

Simpson refers to seniors as “greedy geezers” and tries to shame them for questioning his plan to cut what is for many in Vermont their only source of income in retirement. A little research on your part would have shown how the curmudgeonly Simpson is trying to revise history by saying Social Security was never intended for retirement. Please!

All Vermont seniors deserve better than what Sen. Simpson has in mind.
