Police: Fatality came in rollover
ROYALTON — Police have provided more details of a one-car crash on Interstate 89 Saturday that killed the driver, whom they identified as Elizabeth Wells.
Wells, a 21-year-old from Proctorsville, died when the 2004 Toyota Camry she was driving north in Royalton crashed into the dirt bank in the median and rolled over several times, according to State Police Trooper Christopher Blaise, who is investigating.
When troopers arrived at about 12:50 p.m. they found Wells and her passenger, Steven Pierre, a 29-year-old from Manchester, N.H., had been thrown from the car. Wells was pronounced dead at the scene.
Pierre was taken by ambulance to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H., and treated for cuts and possible broken bones on the left side of his body, according to police. Neither Pierre nor Wells was wearing a seat belt, police said.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation, according to state police, but a witness said the Camry had been traveling at high speeds. The car was destroyed in the crash, according to police.MORE IN This Just In
