Speeders, take note
Speeding on residential streets is becoming a real safety issue. I live on Fairview Street here in Barre City, and have for almost 40 years, granted over the years the traffic flow has increased tremendously, but the speed has increased as well, giving me much concern.
We recently have had the road surface torn up, and currently its dirt surface, and smoother, this is allowing some drivers to take full advantage of driving faster.
Aside from the speeders, my concern grows over the safety of kids, coming off the bike path after school, we have many individuals who walk Fairview to the bike path, including elderly people, also people that enjoying their daily exercise of riding their bicycles, on, and off the bike path. If this doesn’t get under control, someone could be seriously injured, or worse.
There are drivers coming off upper Prospect Street, turning onto Fairview Street, this is somewhat of a blind corner, if someone is speeding, there may not be time enough to stop. There isn’t a speed sign at the beginning of Fairview Street, the location of a speed sign is farther up the street, certainly not visible to drivers, when entering Fairview.
We need this street patrolled more often, and with the help of Barre City, a new speed sign put up at the beginning of Fairview Street.
Let’s put a stop to these speeders, that have no respect for the road, or the people that have to walk these roads.
