BURLINGTON — The University of Vermont and the city of Burlington have been fined by the state over environmental violations.
The university was fined $19,660 after an inspection found that some laboratory records were not consistently maintained and that storage containers were mislabeled.
The university implemented corrective actions for labs involved in the Department of Environmental Conservation inspections.
The city of Burlington was fined $15,000 for allowing the discharge of 2.5 million gallons of stormwater and wastewater into Lake Champlain during a storm in 2011. The city had reported the incident. It updated its procedures and installed monitoring and alarm systems.
