BARRE — A Barre man was arrested on felony charges of possession of cocaine Monday after police reported finding more than 4.5 ounces of crack in his pants.

Jonnathan Jay Allen, 32, was traveling north on Interstate 91 in Rockingham when Vermont State Police Trooper Matthew Steeves stopped him for speeding.

Police said that after the stop, Steeves requested Trooper Kevin Hughes to respond along with his K-9 Bohdan, to assist with an exterior scan of the vehicle. During the scan, Bohdan alerted troopers to the presence of narcotics.

During a search of Allen, police said, they found a fist-size object in Allen’s crotch. Allen allegedly said the item was crack. Allen also allegedly told police he had a pending court case on a possession charge.

Allen was arrested and lodged at the Springfield prison on $5,000 bail. He is to be arraigned in Brattleboro criminal court March 5.
