@Normal:Paper is a shambles
I recognize that The Times Argus suffered losses as the result of Tropical Storm Irene which may account for some of this, but ... the quality of the paper continues to go down. Less and less local news and your publication schedule means that national and world news is “old” news by the time it shows up in the paper.
On top of that, the online version of The Times Argus is ridiculous. Repetitious news links, no format, and since I subscribe to both the paper and online version, I’m constantly surprised to see stories in print that are not in the online version, at least not so one can find them.
I don’t see how your readers can make an educated choice between subscribing online (which must be less expensive for you) or sticking with the more expensive paper version. The opportunity to read anonymous critics who launch verbal attacks on each other with no adult supervision is not a selling point for going with the online version.
Seems you should decide if you are really committed to being online, and if you are, provide a better format.
I know the press likes to claim that they suffer from online competition, and in some cases resent aggregation sites “stealing” content. In this case, however, the wounds seem self-inflicted.
