Shelters should be source of pets
I am writing this because I would like to educate people about animal care awareness and shelter animal awareness. I want people to know that it is important to spay and neuter your pets so that they don’t breed, leaving their offspring without good homes. In fact, one of my dogs was a shelter pet and was going to be euthanized.
Here are some statistics about shelter pets and owned pets: Approximately 5 million to 7 million companion animals enter animal shelters nationwide every year, and approximately 3 million to 4 million are euthanized (60 percent of dogs and 70 percent of cats). Five out of 10 dogs in shelters and seven out of 10 cats in shelters are destroyed simply because there is no one to adopt them. The cost of spaying and neutering a pet is less than the cost of raising puppies or kittens for one year.
I want to educate people on these statistics, on how important it is to care for your pet, and how good it is to adopt a pet from a shelter. Please help me spread the word about this matter.
