BARRE — The Goddard College board of trustees has named John Hennessey Jr. as its newest member.
Hennessey served as the associate dean and dean of the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College from 1962 to 1976. In 1981 he co-founded Dartmouth’s Ethics Institute and instructed undergraduates and MBA students in business ethics. He also served as the first provost of the University of Vermont and as interim president in 1990.
Hennessey is married to former Vermont Gov. Madeline Kunin. They live in Burlington.
Hennessey entered the Army in 1943 and served as a first lieutenant during World War II. He graduated from Princeton University in 1948 and earned an MBA from Harvard University in 1950. In 1956, he earned a doctorate from the University of Washington, where he was an associate professor in the college of business administration.
Hennessey has served on the board of the Educational Testing Service, Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center and Kendal at Hanover, a continuing care retirement community.
Currently, he sits on the boards of Americans for Campaign Reform, an organization that pushes for the public funding of presidential and congressional elections; and Patient Choices Vermont, a nonprofit that supports “death with dignity” legislation. -
