Vt.'s largest egg farm has new owners; no changes

HIGHGATE, Vt. (AP) Vermont's largest egg farm has new owners, but one of the three Canadian investors who bought it says there are no immediate plans to change the operation.

The Vermont Egg Farm holds 100,000 chickens on 170 acres in the town of Highgate, not far from the Canadian border.

The farm was built in 1996 and the original owner tried to expand the operation several times, but was never awarded the needed permits.

Ted Hudson the vice president of Burnbrae Farms of Lyn, Ontario, one of the new owners, tells the Burlington Free Press the owners have met with state officials to learn about expansion rules.

He says if any changes are made they will be done within state rules.
