CVCAC plan is a boon

Published: July 6, 2010

Barre and central Vermont have good news from Central Vermont Community Action Council: The location of the consolidated operations of CVCAC in the P&H furniture location will benefit us all.

First, CVCAC brings into the state hundreds of millions of dollars that go directly into the local economy, because folks who receive these dollars use them on purchase of necessities. This stimulates our economy with jobs, tax dollars and opportunities. CVCAC is one of the largest employers in central Vermont, which means it directly assists in economic stimulus, especially at a time of workforce reductions by the state.

Second, locating CVCAC in the northerly end of Barre will benefit local restaurants, especially those in that part of the city, and other small local businesses by bringing in 50-60 new employees.

Third, CVCAC has programs for every economic group in Central Vermont. Its micro business development office is an excellent resource for assisting start up enterprises. The weatherization programs cover middle class folks as well as lower income folks. Community Capital of Vermont, which makes important loans to small businesses in our communities was parented by CVCAC.

Fourth, the work of CVCAC brings both needed material resources to those in extreme difficulties, and sustaining help and guidance that gives folks the economic, social and technical skills to thrive as independent and community invested citizens.

Finally, let us remember that this multimillion dollar project will put local construction trades and contractors to work over the next year or so.

Three cheers for the foresight and commitment of CVCAC.

"doggle" is missing from the headline!

And yes. more taxes (wealth redistribution) are the answer. Wake up and get a freakin' job people! Do the work that MILLIONS of people will travel hundreds of miles to do.

Why work when I can be paid to stay home? The State and BHO will "arrange" to pay for my utilities, fuel oil, food, travel, daycare, education etc. That leaves more money for cigarettes.

The US is the only country where you can be here illegally and the government will try to protect your "right" to be here. BHO and Leahy/Sanders/Welch will fight to get illegal aliens access to every benefit hard working, legal residents try to earn.

What's wrong with this picture?

i hate to agree with coydog, and his sarcasm may have escaped me, but yes, tax the churches, and the other non profits. Close the loopholes so EVERYONE pays their fair share. Cause the rich sure don't.

Oh please, let some rightwinger roll out the figure of the richest 1% paying half the taxes. Funny how they never mention that they receive well over half the income, so half the taxes isn't really fair, is it?

Spin that, baggers

".............. CVCAC brings into the state hundreds of millions of dollars that go directly into the local economy....."

,
Hurrah for redistribution of wealth. Shame on those that cry out that taxes that support the welfare state penalize success. How can we ever achieve social justice without taking money from those who have earned it and give it to those who haven't. After all, the government's job of creating and spending on "essential" unsustainable entitlements wouldn't be possible without continuing to make income equal between those that work and those that don't. Our wise Speaker of the House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, says that perpetual unemployment benefits are the single best creator of jobs. Sort of like working for the government without actually having to go to work.

Taxing churches would give the government more money to give away too.
