TimesArgus.com - We Are Vermont

Why we should support Dubie

Toolbox

Published: June 27, 2010

The article on Brian Dubie's kickoff (June 13) did a great job talking about the issues he raised in his comments to the crowd — the need to cut taxes and build the economy based on job growth. But what was even more remarkable to me was the vibe. You could feel the energy.

Maybe that's hard to get across in a newspaper article. Take it from someone who was there — it was exciting to see so much optimism, especially when there hasn't been much to get excited about. We need a leader who can bring people together to deal with all the challenges. And Brian Dubie certainly proved he can bring people together.

Brian Dube is highly qualified to be our next Governor on behalf of the state of Vermont.

Brian Dube was born, reared, and educated in Vermont schools. Matt Dunne was born in Connecticut and lived a life of privilege. Brian Dube, on the other hand graduated from the University of Vermont (UVM) with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. Matt Dunne graduated from Brown University with a Bachelor of Arts in ... public policy. Whew. Who knew? HUGE ADVANTAGE: Brian Dube

While a student attending UVM, Brian Dube joined the Vermont Air National Guard. Upon graduation he was trained by the United States Air Force to fly the F-4 Phantom, as well as F-16 Falcon fighter aircraft. He continued flying with the Vermont Air National Guard while he was employed as a mechanical engineer for Goodrich Aerospace located in Vergennes, VT. Later, Brian Dube became a aerospace project manager. Matt Dunne, on the other hand, has zero military experience. Matt Dunne was a sales director. Huge Advantage: Brian Dube

For leadership qualifications Brian Dube has held prestigious positions of trust as Lt. Colonel, as well as the COMMANDER of Vermont's Air National Guard. Remember, Matt Dunne was a sales director. Additionally, US Airlines promoted Brian Dube in 1988 to a high position of trust as a Captain flying MD-80 aircraft. Matt Dunne flies coach while Brian Dube steers highly advanced aircraft. HUGE ADVANTAGE: Brain Dube

Brian Dube, also, deals first hand with our nation's security, and is a current Officer for the National Security Emergency Preparedness Agency. Serving in that role Brian Dube has EARNED the Meritorious Service Award, First Oak Leaf Cluster, for his actions following the 9/11 attacks in NY City. Brian Dube received his second Meritorious Service Award, Second Oak Leaf Cluster and the US Air Force Commendation Medal, First Oak Leaf Cluster, following his exceptional service on behalf of Hurricane Katrina victims. He is currently a full bird-Colonel in the Air Force Reserve. Matt Dunne? He was a political hack picked to lead the now defunct, AmeriCorpsVista volunteer program under President Bush. HUGE ADVANTAGE: Brian Dube

We could go on ... but, you get the picture ...

Brian Dube is MORE THAN WELL QUALIFIED to be our next Governor!

You said it more directly than I did Barry. Dubie has been hiding out from public debate and answering questions. He is like Jim Jeffords when he had Alheimer's disease. He is being handles and told what to say and kept away from having to debate, answer tough questions or engage the public. He only appears in friendly arenas with pre-approved scripts and people in attendance.

It should be evident to anyone that has ever met Dubie that the man is a mental midget. There is no intellectual gravitas behind him, he is a lightweight that is capable of doing nothing more than spew the party line when prompted to do so. In this time of uncertainty, we need someone that is serious and has serious answers to todays issues. Dubie is most certainly not that person.

I disagree Mark. I've met Brian Dubie. Nice man but I think he is pale in comparison to Matt Dunne.

When one compares resumes, Dunne' education and experience are impressive. Many future jobs in Vermont will likely be in the technical field. Google and companies like it are likely to be the employers of the future.

I think if Dunne were a republican the GOP would parade him around as an emblem of both success and an employment direction.

Just saying Dubie is a "leader" doesn't mean anything. He is not and has not been in a leadership position. Lt. Gov. has very light duties and responsibilities.

Let's face it Mark, you would support the republican candidate, no matter who was on the ticket.
