Your article, "Vermont struggles to deal with influx of Haitians across border" was appreciated, but some readers might now like to discuss the implications of these court cases and the likely treatment of future Haitian immigrants. It is important to realize that many of these migrants inevitably will end up being released into the U.S. general public under an "order of supervision"— a status that will allow them to work without gaining permanent residency. Resources will need to be provided for these immigrants, all of whom are searching for better economic opportunities.
The attention of Vermonters will need to move past overwhelmed courthouses and an overworked translator to finding a solution that will ensure that both immigrants and Vermonters find a system of integration and co-habitation. The real struggle will be exhibited in the future as a result of the social and economic pressures produced by large numbers of desperate Haitians hoping to become our neighbors.
